Nonwoven fabric production using waste silk

The use of waste silk combined with polyester to produce a nonwoven fabric for a blanket is investigated and the result compared with a blanket made solely from polyester. The silk/polyester blended nonwoven blanket compared favourably overall to the polyester-only type. Thickness, weight, specific weight, tensile strength, abrasion resistance, flexural rigidity, bending modulus, air permeability and moisture vapour transmission were compared. The nonwoven technique used was needle-punching.
