Behr in Stuttgart, Germany, has developed a new mechanical and electrostatic filter to remove solid and liquid particles from the exhaust air of thermal processes. Particles down to a size of 0.00001 millimeter can be removed. The filiter operates cost-effectively in combination with a heat recuperation system. About two-thirds of the pollutagts are removed in the system. The filter consists of a mechanical pre-filter, an electrostatic filter, and a mechanical after-filter. The pre-filter creates a uniform air velocity that is requisite for electrostatic filtration. In the electrostatic filter, the particles are charged and separated based on charge. Pollutant values below 30 milligrams per cubic meter can be achieved.
