This paper addresses the development of the image analysis technique of flow field analysis to evaluate local orientation in a finique of flow field analysis to evaluate local orientation in a fibrous assembly. The algorithms are evaluated using simulated images. The results are compared with those from the tracking and Fourier methods presented in Parts II and III.
