Textile fabrics with flame-resistant and fire-blocking properties are available in numerous forms as woven or knitted fabrics and, last but not least, as nonwovens. They are used either or the manufacture of special protective clothing for persons being exposed to severe heat or fire or for the protection of combustible construction materials against the effects of fire or for securing workplaces endangered by fire in industrial working processes. The development of new products for the sectors of the public transport, industry and the life-saving services, on the one hand, as well as the increasing awareness of safety on the other are being reflected by the growing number of new, mostly pragmatic standards and regulations which makes it possible to develop technical textiles, especially for a new generation of innovative non-wovens and nonwoven composites.
