Wet-laid nonwoven are nonwovens made by the papermaking process, or some variation of it. That is, the fibers used in the product are put into their final configuration by suspending them in water, and controlling the way in which the fibers and water are separated. Generally, specialized paper machines are used to deposit uniform mats of fiber, which are then bonded and dried to produce rolls of product. The objective of this paper is to introduce a non-specialist to the essentials of this process, and to discuss the relationship of the process to the products it makes.
