A discussion of image analysis hardware and software techniques used to characterize the structure of nonwoven webs shows the advantage of modifying electronic images to allow better visualization by humans. Spectral analysis is useful for characterizing web structure globally. The authors examine simple parameters useful for describing web uniformity and discuss other web structural features described by image analysis.
