ABB Industrial Systems Inc. are manufacturing a method and apparatus for the online determination of fibre orientation and anisotropy in a nonwoven web. The measurement is performed by directing three light sources toward a sensing region of the web. The scattered light is detected by sensors which calculate a fibre orientation angle relative to the machine direction and an anisotropy characteristic for the web.
