By focusing on consumers and their needs for better products, this article aims to predict the future prospects for carded, thermal bonded and airlaid nonwovens in hygiene applications. Following a general review of the market for baby nappies, feminine care and adult incontinence products, the views of FiberVision A/S, Denmark are presented on the future requriements for product improvements with particular emphasis on airlaid technology. This includes results of work carried out to investigate the improvement in strength and reduction of linting in thermal bonded airlaid products.
