this paper briefly outlines perspectives for the cotton fiber raw material supply base, and fiber attributes as related to end product performance needs and opportunities. insights are provided relative to specific differences in physical, chemical and morphological properties among various fiber raw materials which should stimulate broader end product diversification and end product improvements in the nonwoven industry. the combination of cotton's cellulose chemistry with cotton's fiber morphology provides a fundamental basis for end product improvement, diversification, and consumer preference. cotton fiber morphologies are discussed in some detail. 30 refs
