An overview of the nonwoven fabrics markets for roll goods decribes consolidations in the hygiene, coverstock, wipes, medical, and filtration sectors. In 1998, the United States and Canada are expected to have a combined ＄3.3 billion in revenue for conventional nonwoven fabric, a 4 percent increase over the previous year. The hygiene and medical sectors are expected to have modest growth rates, whereas the industrial sectors, especially institutional wipes, will grow at a faster rate. Interlinings will have only minimal growth Such factors as the need for new capital, technological developments, cost reductions, and imrpoved competitive positions have led to an increase in consolidations. Companies involved in consolidations include Western Nonwovens, PGI Nonwovens, and BBA Nonwovens.
