To improve web quality, Fehrer AG modified its nonwoven fabric V21/R feeding unit and K12 carding machine. This nonwoven web forming line features a working width of 4.4-5.4 meters. For a width of 4.2 meters, the line consists of a feeding tower and a hopper feeder that transforms the fiber to a mat of the required width. A weighing station attached just after the hopper monitors the web weight. A pre-web forming machine reduces the size of the fiber flocks and transforms the mat to a pre-web of 300-500 grams per square meter. The K12 carding machine, which is completely randomized, produces isotropic fabrics with the same physical properties in every direction. Using polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene, cotton, flax, and jute fibers, tests confirmed that the modifications significantly increased production capacity.
