An overview of bonding and processing equipment displayed at ITMA 1999 emphasizes technology for accelerating production speeds of needle punching machines and water jet looms. Fehrer's new needle punching machine incorporates a curved asymmetric needling zone. Laroche's Napco process enables the manufacture of three dimensional nonwoven fabrics in which the free space inside the structure can hold solids, fluids, or powders. Nonwoven fabrics manufactured with the Napco process are suitable for civil engineering, transportation, and medical and hygiene applications. New technologies that reduce energy consumption also lower machine operating costs.
