Yarn Processor Unifi Sees Growth Opportunities in Nonwovens.

Unifi Incorporated, a leading united States yarn texturer, will enter the nonwoven fabrics market to extend its role as a processor and distributor of manmade noncellulosic yarns. in addition to nylon and polyester yarns, Unifi will now process polypropylene yarns for the medical, hygiene, protective clothing, furniture, bedding, and industrial sectors. Diversification into nonwovens will allow Unifi to diminish its risk in home furnishings and apparel markets. The company created a new subsidiary, Unifi Technical Fabrics, and will begin construction on an 80,000 square foot manufacturing plant in 1999. Unifi plans to manufacture light weight, fine denier spun bonded and composite fabrics with high levels of uniformity, strength, and overall quality.
