Nonwoven and PUR Foam -- Competition or Complement?

Nonwoven fabrics and polyurethane (PUR) foams compete in specified home furnishing and automotive interior markets. Nonwoven fabrics have advantages in seating materials and for use in fogging environments. Advantages of foam include soft hand and greater thickness. Nonwoven fabrics replace foams in such automotive interior applications as thin substrates used in minibond lamination of the seat cover substrate. This substitution improves the seating climate and increases recyclability and production efficiency. Leather automotive interior manufactures use high loft polyester nonwoven fabrics covered with a light weight fabric to smooth the surface, improve seating climate, and increase processing recyclability.
