Beyond Melt Blowing: Process Refinement in Microfibre Hot Melt Adhesive Technology

Nordson Corporation's Control Weave technology for applying hot melt adhesive consists of a small number of well spaced nozzles with two air holes on either side of each polymer outlet. The unique configuration allows repeating nozzles both within a die module as well as between modules. Die configuration orientation takes advantage of fiber oscillation and manipulates the fibers in a plane normal to the movement of the substrate or in the cross machine direction. The Control Weave technology was tested at line speeds of up to 150 meters per minute. All samples showed consistent size and uniform distribution. Compared with conventional melt blown samples, the Control Weave samples showed superior pattern formation and an absence of globules. 3 refs.
