Major trends for industrial nonwoven fabrics at INDEX 1999 included the use of innovative raw materials and novel manufacturing processes. Manufacture of Fabriano Soft's new spun laid nonwoven fabric of metallocene polypropylene uses a metallocene catalyst during polymerization to produce a homogeneous molecular weight distribution that reduces the melt temperature. Cerax Advanced Fabrics' spun laid nonwoven fabric made from nylon trilobal filaments increases filtration efficiency by increasing specific surface area without reducing permeability. GTM's Struto vertical laying process manufactures nonwoven fabrics with fibers oriented in the Z direction for thermal and sound insulation end uses.
