Influence of Nonwoven Structure on the Burning Behavior of Bondings Including Fabrics and Nonwovens.

Researchers studied the buring behavior of nonwoven fabrics using the DIN 75200 horizontal flame spreading test. The study determined the structural, fabric, and physical properties that influenced the burning process. Scanning electron microscopy and laser confocal microscopy revealed fabric surface and internal structural parameters. Data showed that the packing density of the fibers in the stitched portion of the fabrics was higher than in the random web portion of the fabric. The speed of combustion depended on such factors as type of fibrous material, mass, raw density, and fabric structure. 9 refs.
