Ultrasonic technology is used increasingly to manufacture nonwoven fabrics. Sustaining production speeds in excess of 100 meters per minute with band widths of over 2,000 millimeters and achieving high quality reproducibility require maintaining the spacing between welding bearings and roller to within a few thousandths of a millimeter. Kaster and Herrmann developed the required electronic control, roller, and bearings of the welding electrodes. The touch-free ultrasonic technology makes it possible to weld, separate, point weld, weld multiple layers, laminate multilayered products, emboss, cut, form cut, and perforate. New digital technology makes it possible for the generator to determine the resonance frequency of different welding probes automatically.
