The air permeability of fibrous materials prepared by aerodynamic spinning of polymer melts is measured. These materials are either heat-bonded or needle-punched using a variety of polymers, including polycaproamide and polypropylene. Air permeability is defined as the amount of air that passes through one square meter in one second with a specified pressure difference between the two sides of the sample. The air permeability of these nonwovens is compared with that of woven fabrics. The dependence of the volumetric speed of the air on the pressure difference is calculated. 7 refs.
