Ashland Carbon Fibers has developed a low priced, pitch-based carbon fiber, tradenamed Carboflex, with applications in reinforcing nonwoven composites. These fibers possess high strength and low weight properties. Applications include nonwoven, stitched, and needled mats, and papers or veils for industry. The primary use of the needled mat is for high temperature furnace insulation. It can be produced in both rigid and flexible forms. 3 refs.
