The stochastic structure and the arrangement of fibers and bond elements in nonwovens result in complex relationships between the properties of constituent fibers and the nonwoven fabric. In addition, changes in fabric structure can affect the fabric failure mechanism. This study predicts nonwoven mechanical properties using models based on orthotropic analysis, fiberweb theory, and energy methods. The mechanical properties were compared experimentally. 10 refs.
