The properties of nonwovens containing cotton were examined in order to determine whether more cotton can be used in nonwovens. Bonding techniques, fiber analysis, opening and blending performance, uniformity, processability of bleached cottons with and without lubricant finishes, and fabric properties of calendered cotton and polypropylene blends were studied. Some findings showed that as cotton content increased, fabric strength decreased and cottons were more readily damaged by processing; however, cotton fabrics showed less stiffness, greater cover factor, and faster wicking. 19 refs.
