During the manufacture of nonwovens a number of defects can occur which are not acceptable in subsequent processing or later use. For this reason the inspection of nonwoven materials during all manufacturing and subsequent processes is very improtant. The article presents inspection equipment produced by the German firm Erhardt + Leimer GmbH. The company produces inspection equipment for various fields including teh textile and nonwoven industry. The complete system covers consulation, feasibility studies, system design, development and construction, mechanical integration, service and training. In nonwoven production the following defects are detected: irregularities in thickness, holes, soiling, layering defects, straks, foreign bodies and broken fibres. These are detected by a system of intelligent CCD cameras with Pentium PC, and market system supplemented by a modern inspection network.
