The calender is a machine with rollers. Two or more rollers turn against each other and process the substrate passing between them. The purpose of the calender is to alter the surface, compress the fabric, improve the hand, thermobond nonwovens, groove felts, laminate composites etc. The floating roller (Sroller) developed by the German firm Eduard Kusters Maschinenfabrik GmbH and Co. KG was the first bend-controlled roller. The 2 S-rollers currently used in the nonwovens industry are the S-Roll 170 and the Hot-S-Roll 250 for use at 170 and 250 ℃ respectively. They are used thermobonding, laminating, finishing and end-treatments and perforating.
