Modern car airbags are normally made from high tenacity materials such as rip-stop nylon. However, a new development has been suggested by the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co., St. Paul, using a low permeability stitchbonded fabric. This new material has first and second surfaces comprising a thermoplastic base web and a two-bar warp knit structure with a Mullen burst strength of about 2.5 MPa and a permeability of less than 1㎤/sec/㎠.
