A novel test for dynamic wiping efficiency, or wipe-dry, characterized 11 commercially available fabrics used to manufacture industrial wipes for food service, industrial, and cleanroom applications. The dynamic test more closely represents real end use conditions than conventional static tests. Fabrics constructed by hydroentanglement generally outperformed fabrics manufactured by other techniques. Fabrics with a bulky character imparted through creep or stitch bonding exhibited superior wipe-dry. Researchers compared the absorbent capacity, rate of sorption, and bursting strength of each of the fabric samples, which included nonwovens, knit, woven, and melt blown fabrics.
