Disclosed are the benefits and production methods for chitosancontaining wound dressings. As well as a bactericidal effect, the nonwovens support the skins physiological secretion process for wound healing and help to stimulate the body's own healing process. Wet-laid nonwovens have been prepared by blending fibrillaed lyocell and chitosan fibers, and by spraying the lyocell fibers with a microcrystalline chitosan or a chitosan solution in aqueous acetic acid.
