Asahi Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. will increase its production capacity for spun-bonded types of nonwoven fabrics, utilizing mainly polypropylene fiber and considering the future use of other synthetic fibers such as polyester. The scale of the increase will be 13,000 ton/year, and is scheduled to begin during 2001. Spunbonded fabrics are a sector where future demand is forecast to grow steadily, and competition among producers is severe. Asahi Chemicals capacity is of the world largest scale, giving the company a clear advantage over production variety and cost competitiveness.
