Various types of fibres are examined, eg fibres with a sheath/core structure, fibres with a side-by-side structure and microfibres. The spinning of bicomponent fibres and microdenier split fibres is discussed. The AquaJet technique for the splitting of microfibres by water jets in the production of spunlace fabrics is described. These are useful as automotive, filter and apparel fabrics, and can also be used as wiping cloths.
