Experiments used greige cotton fibers and recycled polyester waste fibers to produce low cost, nonwoven fabrics for blankets that were comfortable, provided thermal insulation, and maintained satisfactory appearance through short term laundering. A recently developed commercial process generates waste polyester remnants. Greige cotton, instead of scoured and bleached cotton, was blended with short and long polyester fibers to confer strength and stability. The samples consisted of a range of blend ratios. Chemical finishes applied to the fabrics improved properties. Measurements included physical and thermal properties. 6 refs.
