The claim refers to a nonwoven fabric which consists of a blend of superabsorbent fibres and thermoplastic fibres, eg bicomponent polypropylene. The fabric is heated to fuse the fibres preferably in discrete zones throughout the fabric. The fabric is capable of absorbing many times its weight of aqueous liquid without losing its integrity, but disintegrates on contact with excess aqueous medium. IPC D04H.
