Fiber consumption in Western Europe, driven by an 801 percent growth achieved in 1997. Industrial fabric applications accounted for 21 percent of total fiber conumption in Western Europe. Increased consumption of polyester fibers by the tire industry increased overall fiber consumption by 5.1 percent. Consumption of cellulosic filament and nylon staple fibers fell in 1988. Tables present data on fiber consumption by end use sector in 1990-1998, fiber consumption by type in 1990-1998, and fiber consumption in selected woven industrial fabric applications.
