Nonwoven lyocell fabrics have twice the dry strength, almost three times the wet strength, higher wet cohesion and wet resilience, stronger thermal bonding with manmade fibers, stronger bonding with latex, less shrinkage, better dimensional stability, and higher absorbency rates and capacities than nonwoven viscose fabrics. Fibrillating lyocell allows manufacturers to control fabric hand, barrier properties, opacity, moisture absorbency and transport, tear and tensile strength, air permeability, and particle capture. Applications in the industrial fabric sector include flame resistant overalls for oilworkers, cigarette filters, papers for electrical batteries and capacitors, and wet and microwavable wipes. Sales for industrial applications now account for approximately 10 percent of sales of Acoridis's Tencel fabrics. 12 refs.
