Many slitting machine manufacturers provide pilot plants so that customers can select optimal slitting machines and blades for specific nonwoven fabrics. The physical properties of the nonwoven fabric being slit determine the selection of slitting machine, blade type, and processing speed. Online slitting systems for processing spun bonded, spun bonded/melt blown/spun bonded, and wet laid fabrics require programmable control systems that change cut roll widths without stopping the processing line. Commonly used slitting methods are shear, core, razor slitting, and water jet systems. Dienes Corporation and Parkinson Machinery & Manufacturing company offer laser positioning units that provide precision knife alignment. Beam Dynamics offers laser cutting systems using carbon dioxide lasers for cutting composite materials.
