Lenzing Group's sales increased 12 percent during the first quarter of 2001 to 162 million euros. Before tax earnings increased 54 percent. Demand for ProViscose fibers for nonwoven fabric manufacture increased. The company introduced Lyocell LF fibers. Demand for Lenzing's cellulosic fibers is expected to increase during the second half of 2001 as competitors in Japan, the United States, and Europe withdraw from the market. Acordis increased its annual nylon 66 production capacity by 6,000 tons to 23,000 tons to meet increasing demand for air bags. Enka GmbH had sales of over 2000 million euros in 2000 and controlled 95 percent of the German market for viscose yarns for linings.
