Antimicrobial material with high activity are outlined in this article. Kimberly Clark discovered that when thinly coated onto a substrate with a hydrophobic surface certain antimicrobial agents such as chitosan exhibit a higher antimicrobial activity than the activity of the agent alone. When applied to the surface of a polypropylene nonowoven the resulting fabric can be used for diaper linings, incontinence garments and feminine hygiene pads to reduce odours and promote healthy skin. This development is discussed in detail in this article.
