World production of nonwoven fabrics reached 3.9 million metric tons in 2001. Nonwoven fabric production 1991-2001. Production volume is expected to increase at an annual rate of 8.5 percent from 2001-2006. Sales will exceed $20 billion in 2006. Japanese, North American, and European nonwoven production decreased from 75 percent of world production in 1991 to 66 percent in 2001. Nonwoven fabric production in Asia and the Pacific region tripled during that period. Production capacity increased in Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Israel, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. Production doubled in Latin American during the period, with the initiation of state of the art facilities in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina.
