Automobile manufacturers are replacing automotive foam structures with nonwoven fabric composites due to their recyclability. The Struto vertical lapping machine and through air thermal bonding chamber process virgin and waste fibers into nonwoven fabric composites in a single process. Vertical positioning of the fibers imparts excellent compressional rigidity and a high degree of recovery. Struto, fabrics have applications in home furnishings, apparel, automotive components, and hygiene products. Laroche's Napco 3D Web Linker allows the introduction of intermediate components into the composite structure. Kunit and Multi Kunit technologies require additional heat setting to manufacture woven fabrics with elastic properties similar to those of polyurethane foams. Other replacements for conventional foam structures include by laid nonwoven fabrics bonded via needling or chemical bonding.
