Nonwoven fabrics have applications in medical and surgical products and supplied, incluing sterilized wraps, gowns, drapes, and incontinence products. These products must protect patients and healthcare workers from environmental contamination, blood, or body fluids. Barrier requirements include protection from particulates, bacteria, fluids, and viruses. Flexibility, strength, drape, and durability vary from product to product. Carding, wet laying, spunbonding, or melt blowing processes are used to manufacture nonwoven fabrics. Secondary finishes and finishing processes, such as surfactants, creping, sueding, napping, or electrical charges, improve or supplement fabric properties.
