The filtration industry, one of the fastest growing markets for nonwoven fabrics, is highly segmented by application. Competitive manufacturers must offer a mix of commodity items and niche products. Nonwoven fabrics initially captured market share from woven fabric and paper filtration products, but nonwoven fabric manufacturers are now achieving growth by developing new filtration applications and by replacing other nonwoven fabric technologies. Increasing government regulations and consumer requirements are driving industry developments. Government health and environmental regulations are increasing demand for better air, blood, and automotive filtration products. Nonwoven filter fabric manufacturers report that, in addition to demands for higher levels of filtration, customers require shorter machine downtimes, shorter reaction times, less maintenance, and improved production.
