M/K Systems used the MK GATS instrument based on a Johnson & Johnson patent licensed to the company to characterize absorption in cotton or other nonwoven fabrics. The original unit designed in the 1970s sampled products that were characterized by rapid absorption, such as thin tissues. The company redesigned the unit in 1998 for use on the Microsoft Windows platform and collaborated with North Carolina State University to develop fiber orientation capabilities. The instrument monitors absorption and generates accurate data on a wide variety of products. 1 ref.
