Tencel cellulosic fiber has a dry tenacity of 4.5-5.0 grams per denier, extension at break of 14-16 percent, wet tenacity of 3.9-4.3 grams per denier, extension at break of 16-18 percent, water imbibition of 65-70 percent, and degree of cellulose polymerization of 550-600. Applications of Tencel in wipes include patient bath cloths, kitchen wipes, industrial wipes, drying cloths, and flushable hygiene wipes. Tests evaluating the physical properties, absorbency, and linting of spun laced and needled fabrics manufactured from Tencel fibers and Tencel fiber blends determined that Tencel improved the strength, stability, liquid retention, and cleaning of nonwoven wipes for industrial applications and bath cloths.
