Laundries that handle medical linens must implement special stain removal techniques to cope with the chemical content of medicines and medicine related staining agents. Methods for coping with stains from the following substances are discussed: benzoyl peroxide, castor oil/balsam Peru, methylene blue, Hibiclens, potassium permanganate, silver nitrate, dithranol, oil, and merthiolate/mercurochrome. Proper training of healthcare personnel in the handling and storage of these substances, and in how they affect linens, can reduce the incidence of staining.
