The use of Nomex aramid fibres in the production of protective garments for racing drivers is examined. Nomex incorporating a certain amount of Kevlar provides greater protection against explosive fires by preventing the fabric from tearing under the action of intense heat and flames. The fabric thickens by 60, forming a solid protective layer.
