This book is a compilation of papers presented at a symposium entitled Performance of protective clothing: challenges for developing protective clothing for the 1990s, which was held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 18-20 June 1991. The papers are presented according to areas of special interest. Resistance of clothing to aerosols, chemicals, pesticides and its heat, physical and biological resistance are discussed. Field tet methods for evaluating garment design, comfort, dexterity, psychological stress and effective performance while wearing protective clothing are considered. Several reports on decontamination are given. Protective clothing programmes, risk assessment and strategies are reported. Current attempts aimed at the international standardization of protective clothing are noted. Reports from European and Asian countries give an update on developments in those areas.
