The requirements made of garment fabrics for clothing to be worn in clean rooms are set out, ie not transporting particulate matter into the room's atmosphere, being as antistatic as possible, and being comfortable to wear. Tests which can be carried out to determine the propensity of a fabric to release particles into the atmosphere or allow them to pass through it are explained. The problems posed by electrostatic discharge are discused.
