How he Apparel Industry Measures up to Quality Standards.

A survey examined current quality manufacturing and the cost of quality management in the United States apparel industry. The survey comprised four sections: company background, company quality philosophy, quality practices, and the cost of quality practices. The survey was mailed to the plant managers and quality personnel at 201 apparel manufacturing plants with 25 or more ecployees that were located inthe states of North Carolina, Gerogia, and South Carolina. Most apparel manufacturers considered the final judge of quality to be the customer. The vast majority of manufacturers used some type of final inspection as a quality control procedure. Nearly half used statistical process control. Few manufacturers had programs to measure quality costs. 21 refs.
