The 1993 Bobbin Show introduced new technologies for the design, tracking, and manufacturing of apparel. Microdynamics has developed Product Data Management (PDM), which automates the entire product development documentation process. PDM is used by such Duropean companies as Lee, Wrangler, Laura Sahleyk and Carly Cry, and by Liz Claiborne in the United states. Gerber Garment Technology (GGT) displayed AccuMark, a data management tool that makes it possible to track and document products from design to production. Lectra Systems displayed GraphicCost, which automatically estimates the cost of an item of apparel as soon as it is designed. Other new products included Invest-GPM from Investronic, Assyform from Assyst, and electronic specification sheets from CDI and Shima Seiki. Computer aided design (CAD) systems are now affordable even for very small companies, and have become more efficient and user friendly. Companies offering CAD systems include GGT, Microdynamics, Assyst, Lectra, Shima Seiki, Polygon, PAD, and Investronica. Lectra's Graphic Instant CAD system uses an electronic sketching table and electronic pen for all design activities. The development of `bite size cutting'has allowed for the design of more compact fabric cutting machines, such as Lectra's Vector 2500, Investronica's CV020, and GGT's S-3000.
