Researchers developed a CAD system for the three dimensional simultino of apparel, including the automatic generation of patterns, from two dimensional feehand fashion sketches and drawings. An analysis of the methodology underlying the design of three dimensional CAD patterning algorithms focused on kinematic representations of apparel when draped on the human body. By applying neural networks to the recognition of patterns, the researchers developed a CAD system that combines flat sectional projections to form a topologically plausible garment that a designer can view from any angle. 6 refs.
