The Singer 299U series of sewing machines is suitable for making buttonloles in jeans. A specially designed work clamp facilitates the loading and unloading of the front portion of jeans waistband, which is extremely thick on one side (about 12 plies) and extremely thin on the other side (2-4 plies). The Work Clamp Opening Lever Locking Pawl Mechanis, which prevents clamp wear, is available as an option. The 229U series comes in four models.
